You’ll have to go to a TRUCK TECH customer’s distribution center to catch a glimpse of Ben Kennedy, a maintenance veteran and long-time team member.
After high school Ben spent six years as a car mechanic, then joined TRUCK TECH and transitioned to heavy vehicles. “They sent me back to school, got me skilled up with my heavy vehicle ticket, and I haven’t looked back,” Although Ben has worked on buses and trucks, he most enjoys working on trailers. “When you turn up and have 10 trailers broken down, and you are able to send them all back on the road, it’s a win-win.”
TRUCK TECH’s bonus system for top performers motivates technicians to excel and rewards their hard work. For Ben, these bonuses go toward family adventures and his passion for boating. “It gives you a little more ‘play money’ to do things you wouldn’t normally justify,” he adds.
Ben appreciates having battery-powered tools to do faster and more efficient repairs and notes that teamwork and safety are integral to every aspect of TRUCK TECH’s operations. “Safety is always forefront of mind,” he explains. “We’re not just jumping under trailers. Everything’s isolated, tagged out, and organised to ensure everyone’s safe.”
TRUCK TECH’s embrace of innovation and professional development has been the game-changer for Ben. “Anything we’ve asked for that pertains to the industry TRUCK TECH has supported. The training here is fantastic,” he explains.
Over his eight years, Ben has seen TRUCK TECH evolve in the fleet maintenance space - and use technology to meet the demands of the industry: paperless workflows and real-time data access via iPads and devices. “Back in the day, it was all paper timesheets, paper job cards. But with TRUCK TECH, the information is all digital and on devices. You can easily check service history on the trailers and trucks without having to go through paper files. Everything is digital and in real time,” he says.
“TRUCK TECH’s founder, Barry Saad, a heavy vehicle mechanic himself, has created a culture that empowers team members to excel. You’re not just working with colleagues; they’re your mates. It’s a Godsend to be paid to hang out and fix trucks and trailers with people you genuinely enjoy working with.”
